Gayle Rice
At IRISS I am part of the Innovation and Improvement programme where I manage projects that develop tools, training and interventions to support and enable social services in Scotland.
I am interested in how design thinking and practice methods can be used to develop service provision and use research, facilitation and visual methods to support people explore and define how their services can be improved. Prior to joining IRISS I worked in the design industry, exploring, questioning and designing solutions that respond to commercial and public service issues. I have also worked for third sector organisations that provide services to young people, sit on a sub-group of the Scottish Government's Looked After Children Strategic Implimentation Group and am activley involved in The Debate Project, working with care leavers to improve the care system for other young people in the future.
I work part-time and as part of my career development am undertaking a PhD in Design at the Glasgow School of Art. This project is exploring the role and perceived impact of visual methods as interventions in conversations between young people and social workers, and is grounded in the Leaving Care Service in Scotland (www.gaylerice.co.uk).
If you would like to get in touch with me to discuss how IRISS could support your organisation please do.
