Caroline Tomlinson - Family life and the lives they choose

IRISS Forum 2010

IRISS Forum 2010 - Challenging times, creative solutions was the first annual IRISS Forum. Those who attended had the opportunity to hear from a number of speakers and found out how IRISS can support the social services workforce to 'do things differently.' Was focused on how solutions can be found by working in partnership to deliver successful outcomes for the people that access Scotland's social services.

Caroline Tomlinson is the parent of three children: Joe, Rosie and Jacob. Joe is 19 years old and has high support needs. He took part in the national In Control pilot in Wigan. Joe was the first person in the UK to receive an individual budget and it has made a phenomenal difference to his life. She has worked in both the statutory and voluntary sectors in roles which have promoted inclusion, opportunity and the people's voice to be heard.

Caroline has particular expertise in encouraging and motivating families and disabled people to make a difference to their life through creativity, leadership, positive thinking and proactively becoming involved in policymaking. Her vision is that individuals with disabilities and their families should be 'In Control' of their own lives and should have real choices about the type and quality of support they receive.
