Call for Learning Partners

Collaborate with us, using the TSO resource to build and improve social work student practise learning opportunities

We’re looking for third sector learning partners in using a new Iriss resource developed to support third sector organisations with hosting student placements.

The resource was created with the input from a range of third sector organisations, practice educators, universities, students and recently qualified workers. It focuses on practical examples and highlights what host organisations and students find helpful in planning a placement and working together, as well as actions that universities can take to support placements.

Learning partners can access support from Iriss to use the tools and ideas in the resource in their approach to hosting a social work student placement. This support might look like:

  • Using the resource in context: facilitated discussions with your team around what you want to do to host a student in your organisation, whether you’ve done this before and want to improve or develop how it’s done, or host a student for the first time
  • Action planning: using the resource and action planning for specific goals (e.g. preparing to host, developing good feedback loops with placement partners, developing the way you structure a placement)
  • Implementation support: helping you to navigate your way through trying out your ideas in practice.
  • Understanding impact: help to understand what makes a difference, and why, for your team, the people your organisation supports, and the students on placement.

If you're interested in working with us while you use the resource, please complete this form to tell us more about your context and what support you need: https://forms.office.com/e/F70G7M8iBW

This support would have no financial outlay for you, as Iriss time and input is covered by our grant funding from the Scottish Government during 2025-26.
