How Gypsy/Traveller cultural awareness informs social work

Published in News on 1 Mar 2021

On 18 March 2021, Iriss will host a one-hour session that will explore terminology, historical understanding and the relationship between social work and Gypsy/Traveller communities.

It will introduce solution-focused approaches to positive engagement and reflect on lived experience of inclusive practice. It will also be a safe space for conversation, ensuring attendees have every opportunity to ask questions and challenge their pre-conceptions around Gypsy/Travellers.

Speakers include Annie Bryant, a criminal justice social worker based within Dumfries and Galloway, and Davie Donaldson, a Nawken – Scottish Traveller – advocate and social justice campaigner.
