This evaluation explores the practitioner research initiative of Children 1st and the Glasgow School of Social Work which was aimed at supporting practitioners to develop and undertake their own small-scale research projects. The project sought to have an impact at three levels: individual, team, and organisation. The findings discuss the consequences, benefits and outcomes at all of these three levels. The evaluation was commissioned by Iriss and Funded by the Scottish Government Changing Lives Fund.
This report builds on and complements a literature review on practitioner research in social services which we published earlier this year. In addition Ian Shaw and Neil Lunt both recorded interviews with Rhoda Macrae in which they discuss some of the issues relating to practitioner research and the relationship between research and practice. Both are available as Iriss podcasts. An executive summary is also available.
