Care homes and community

Published in News on 15 Jun 2017

Care Home Week, led by Scottish Care, takes place in Scotland this week (12-18 June).

Throughout the week, there will be celebrations of Scotland's care homes, the individuals who live and work in them, their role in local communities and the opportunities care homes offer to enhance lives and wellbeing for a wide range of people.

In 2014, as part of our Fit for the Future project, we worked with Scottish Care to explore delivering support for older people in community settings. We supported the idea that care homes don't become ‘islands of the old’, but are seen as community assets integrated into daily life.

Read the story of a care home which wanted to invite the community into it in order to enhance the lives of isolated older people living in Argyll and Bute.
