Vigilantism in a rural setting

Did you know that an estimated one in three men and one in 10 women have a criminal record in Scotland? 2023 saw a significant rise in the public targeting individuals who have or are deemed to be involved in the criminal justice system. What does this mean for those living with a criminal conviction, and social work practitioners in rural areas?

Dumfries and Galloway MAPPA Coordinator, Lindsay Temlett, will discuss the impact felt by individuals and services in the region, providing examples of actions taken to try and reduce the number of outings and decrease the stigma that individuals face.

Eppie Sprung, founder and Chief Executive of Next Chapter Scotland, will draw on her own experiences and other NCS service users, to provide insight into the personal impact of living with a criminal record in a rural region. This includes being on the receiving end of vigilantism.
