Follow Iriss on the web

Iriss has been reorganising and refocussing but we've not been standing still. This month's column offers a recap on how we are using the web to help you keep abreast of what's happening.

In May we launched two new current awareness services. Social Services Events is a calendar of upcoming conferences, meetings and training events. You can use this calendar in a number of ways which are described in more detail on our web site. As well as a choice of calendar views (weekly, monthly, agenda), you can opt to receive a daily email containing the latest additions while those who like using news feeds (also known as RSS) can subscribe using their choice of reader. Webmasters will be interested to know that it's easy to embed the calendar in their own websites.

Complementing the events calendar Social Services Sector News will keep you up-to-date with the latest developments in the sector: for example policy announcements, consultation exercises and news from key stakeholders. A key feature of these new services is that they are yours: share your news and events with the rest of the world by sending the details to Iriss.

The Learning Exchange, our well established digital library, continues to develop and now offers access to more than 2,000 resources: to see what's new, follow us on Twitter.

We have also been busy filming and recording events over the last few months. Visit our Vimeo site to see video clips, including some excellent comment at the launch of the ADSW's campaign to improve the public's understanding of social work. Finally, you can also find us on Facebook.
