Marking World Social Work Day at SSCE 2014

Published in News on 24 Mar 2014

On Tuesday 18 March, social services organisations from the public, voluntary and independent sectors, as well as individuals that use services in Scotland, came together to celebrate World Social Work Day at the second Social Services Expo 2014, which was held at Edinburgh International Conference Centre. The event highlighted the range of social services and supports available across Scotland and showcased some of the good work that is happening.

It was attended by around 600 people and gave participants the opportunity to attend workshops, drop-in sessions, poster and stand exhibitions and to engage in creative activities, such as 'Make yourself at home with IRISS' - a space to converse, share what creativity means to you and to hear 'In Full Voice' social services choir entertain throughout lunch.

Francesca Martinez, an award-winning wobbly* (*Francesca has mild cerebral palsy, but much prefers the word 'wobbly') comedian closed the day with what was a very funny, inspiring and thought provoking performance.

We took some photos on the day.

Many of the workshop presentations will be available on the Social Services Expo and Conference 2014 event website in the coming weeks.
