Ethical commissioning programme

The Iriss ethical commissioning programme is focussed on supporting implementation of the ethical commissioning and procurement principles at both local and national level.

Our core projects are:

  1. Ethical Commissioning Implementation Plan – working closely with Scottish Government and other partner organisations, we will provide support to ensure the priorities in the ethical commissioning implementation plan become embedded in both policy and practice.
  2. Training and Support for Commissioners – we are working with a group of commissioners to design training and support on ethical commissioning for commissioners. This may contribute to development of a formal qualification for commissioners.
  3. Local Innovation Support – Iriss will be working with individual local authorities on improving commissioning, procurement and contracting practice. This is ongoing work from our previous years' foundations for change work
  4. Iriss ethical commissioning training course – we will review and update the Iriss ethical commissioning online course, including the development of new resources.

This programme is part funded by the Adult Social Care Ethical Commissioning Policy Team in the Scottish Government.

Commissioner development programme

Want to go from good to great commissioning? Join our commissioner development programme!

I have a confession to make, I am a commissioning geek. For over a decade I've written, argued, researched, lobbied, moved words around in guidance documents, given many conference speeches, and read (and written) some of the most boring reports known to humankind in pursuit of finding out why commissioning seems hard to define, and even harder to do.
