Self-evaluation for improvement: Guide (Care Inspectorate)

Description

Self-evaluation is central to continuous improvement. This guide supports care services to reflect on what they are currently doing. This will help them understand where to target efforts to support improvement, and when to build on what's working well.

The three stages to self-evaluation set out in the guide are:

  1. How are we doing? Understanding how good the service is and the impact it has on the lives of people experiencing it.
  2. How do we know that? Evidence might include performance measures, outcomes and processes alongside the views of people experiencing the service.
  3. What do we plan to do next? – The improvement plan, its priorities, and what changes will be tested.
