Self-directed support and workforce development
ESSS Outline
The Curate and Connect project brings together special collections of Iriss resources based on topics at the forefront of the COVID-19 crisis. Each collection includes insights from a member of the social services workforce about the impact of COVID-19 and why this is an important topic right now.
This collection brings together key Iriss resources on the topic of Self-directed support, including Iriss.fm podcast episodes, evidence summaries plus an Iriss Insight (*though this Insight is from 2012, it helpfully outlines the origins and important context for SDS). Also included here is our Pilotlight project which offers a range of multimedia tools and resources.
This blog post by Dr Jim Elder Woodward OBE describes his personal experiences of self-directed support during Covid-19.
Pilotlight was a five year programme (2012-2017) funded by the Scottish Government as part of the implementation of self-directed support.
It co-designed seven pathways to self-directed support focusing on mental health, risk, self-employment, young people in transition, older people in transition, people with younger onset dementia and people in recovery from substance misuse.
The project tested and refined a model for successful power sharing, produced tools and resources, and developed solutions for the implementation of self-directed support. Each pathway included people who access support, local authorities and support providers.
