Using AI wisely: Ethics and effectiveness in social work
An Iriss Skills Session
Our webinar series, Iriss Skills Sessions, are online events where we explore topics with a focus on actionable and impactful improvement on practice. These are practically focused, and designed respecting the limited time practitioners have.
They are part of our Spaces to Grow range of activities, which offer opportunities for people to find time to invest in themselves to promote better working.
An Iriss Skills Session
Big ideas and bold visions for change are everywhere but making them work in practice is often the hardest part. Why do good ideas struggle to take root? And what does it really take to move from intention to impact?
This Skills Session is aimed at social work practitioners who have an interest in how AI can and should be used ethically in practice. We will talk you through the ethical issues based on research with practitioners and offer a live demonstration of the effective use of AI from a computer scientist expert, which will help you use this to maximum effect and be aware of and offset its limitations. We will offer the opportunity for you to discuss key issues of contemporary concern while exploring the opportunities AI might present.
Delivered by Iriss CEO Stuart Muirhead, it is an hour-long, lunch time Skills Session focused on practical applications of writing analysis and language use in social work. This session is designed to build and enhance your understanding of applying critical thought to written work, enhancing your messaging and understanding of textual communication regardless of your experience level.
We have just wrapped up our final Skills Session for the year (one of our Spaces to Grow activities), and it’s been a really excellent process for us internally at Iriss. The interest and feedback has been beyond what we expected, given that this is a new programme for Iriss. Having sold out every session has been amazing!
At our second Iriss Skills Session, Dr Emily Whyte shared the creative and multi-disciplinary approach to working alongside care experienced young people, developed through her doctoral research at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).
