National guidance and frameworks

National guidance and frameworks are designed to help those working in Adult Support and Protection adhere to their statutory duty, and to practice in the most effective way possible. Frameworks and guidance will usually draw on existing evidence and be co-produced with those experienced in the field.

Adult Support and Protection: Large Scale Investigation guidance

The guidance aims to provide a framework that can be used across Scotland, with a view to improving the quality and efficacy of Large Scale Investigations (LSIs). The guidance also aims to achieve greater consistency across Scotland in how LSIs are commenced, conducted, concluded and reported on. The guidance supports using LSIs as a planned and structured intervention wherever possible, while recognising that LSIs will also need to be flexible and respond to changing circumstances.

Adult safeguarding: Roles and competencies for health care staff (Royal College of Nursing)

This document has been designed for health care staff and the teams they work with. It supports staff to identify the competencies they need in order to provide personalised, and culturally sensitive, adult safeguarding.

It is designed to be used in all organisations that provide or commission health care for adults regardless of sector, setting or size. It is also designed to be used by all services who are commissioned to work directly with children but need also to be competent working with adults.

Learning Disability Employment: Tools and Guidance (NHS Scotland)

This guidance supports NHS organisations to increase the number of people with learning disabilities employed in NHS services. The accompanying toolkit aims to raise awareness, provide information on reasonable adjustments, and break down some of the barriers that both employers and potential employees may face. It aims to help create a culture which welcomes people with learning disabilities and promotes equitable access to job opportunities.

Human Rights Act 1998

The Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA) is a UK law that brings the rights enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) into domestic law, making them directly enforceable in UK courts. It ensures that all public authorities in the UK, including the government, must act compatibly with these human rights.

Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC)

Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) is Scottich Government's commitment to provide all children, young people and their families with the right support at the right time.

The GIRFEC principles and values are based on children's rights. GIRFEC contains eight wellbeing indicators (SHANARRI) that describe how a child or young person is doing at a point in time.
