Launch of Leading Chronology Improvement Tool for testing

Published in News on 11 Nov 2024

Iriss is delighted to publish Leading Chronology Improvement: Reflection and Self-assessment Tool. This new tool is designed to help leaders to improve chronology practice. Based on research and in partnership with the National Implementation Subgroup for Chronologies, the tool invites leaders to assess their current understanding of and practices related to chronologies; to identify incremental, manageable changes and take meaningful actions for improvement. The tool poses questions across a number of themes to support reflection and help leaders think through the supports and barriers in their context, related to their leadership role. It also offers prompts from research and ideas for activities.

‘Leader’ in this context means someone, regardless of positional authority, who wants to improve chronology practice. The scope of the tool acknowledges that chronologies are essential across the lifespan, and enhancing chronology practice requires a holistic approach. Consequently, this tool is designed for leaders working with children, young people, and adults across Social Work, Social Care, Education, Police, Justice, and Health sectors.

This tool can be freely adapted to align with existing local guidance. It can be used flexibly, to support individual reflection, team discussions, supervision, or as part of training.

On behalf of the National Implementation Subgroup for Chronologies

We are very encouraged to see the final draft of the Leading Chronology Improvement Tool in which the group have contributed to and been kept fully up to date on its creation. We are excited for your feedback on how you will look to implement the tool into your practice.

It is hoped that this is the first step in a collaborative approach from across workstreams and organisations to embrace good quality Chronology discussion and analysis and the positive impact they can have in the work we all do -and most importantly for the individuals we support in recognising and supporting risk.
