Participation

Participation is when adults (along with carers, supporters and families) have a clear say in their own support and protection. Participation can mean broad approaches such as co-production of Adult Support and Protection, designed to improve services. It can also mean working together with people to have their voice heard in processes such as case conferences. The resources in this category all support amplifying people's voices in the Adult Support and Protection system in Scotland.

Adult participation guidance (Scottish Borders)

The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 is guided by a number of principles which recognise the importance of adult participation. This guidance sets out practitioner's responsibilities and best practice in promoting an adult's participation in the ASP process. This includes guidance on keeping someone informed, addressing barriers to participation, and advocacy.

An online learning resource which supports the participation of adults and carers throughout the Adult Support and Protection process.

This is a completely updated version of a handbook from 2011, Working Together in Adult Support and Protection (developed by Altrum and the University of Stirling). It includes several video reflections from professionals and people who have lived experience of the ASP process in Scotland. There is also reflective questions and space to record answers.
