ScOPTbox - practice learning library

ScOPTbox is a curated collection of resources for social workers and others involved in supporting learning in the workplace in Scotland. It has been developed by the Scottish Organisation for Practice Teaching (ScOPT), and was launched at the ScOPT conference in Glasgow on 12 November.

Launch of See Me/Iriss Change Network Toolkit

Today, 1st December marks the launch of the See Me/Iriss Change Network Tooklit. In 2015, See Me, Iriss and the Scottish Mental Health Co-operative brought together a group of peer researchers and storytellers from across Scotland to understand change in communities in relation to mental health stigma and discrimination. Lessons learned were applied from See Me's Change Networks, which are groups designed to bring people together to share and develop new initiatives of how to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination.

Medium - a simple way to create stories

We're all aware of the power, and the increasing popularity, of story to get a message across. And visual stories can be even more powerful. The quick creation of online, multimedia stories is possible using Medium. Medium enables the creation of stories that comprise text, web links, videos and photographs. It basically provides a blank canvas on which to build a web page of content.

New Pilotlight pathways get underway

Over the past three years, Pilotlight has brought together commissioners, deliverers and users of services to research and design some of the different pathways to self-directed support. With its new round of funding, the team is keen to explore the opportunities that self-directed support offers to plan creatively for transitions with older people and people with younger onset dementia.

'The View from Here' project findings

An event to launch the findings of The View from Here, a project designed to understand the working lives, attitudes and experiences of the social services workforce in Scotland, was launched on 28 October 2015, at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.

Launch of the Scottish Care Leavers' Covenant

Today, 22nd October 2015, marks the launch of the Scottish Care Leavers' Covenant, which is being held at The Princes Trust in Glasgow. This coincides with National Care Leavers Week which runs over 22-30th October 2015.

The Scottish Care Leavers' Covenant is a bold and committed promise to young people who have experience of the care system: that they matter. It will support corporate parents to deliver changes in action and practice to bring improvement and consistency to the care of these young people.

Periscope - video streaming

Twitter is great for keeping up to date with what's happening, finding interesting information and sharing it with others. If you use Twitter and like it, you may be interested in Periscope, a live video streaming app for iOS and Android. The developers of the app became fascinated by the idea of discovering the world through someone else's eyes - in real-time. In their words, Periscope is described as' a visual pulse of what's happening right now'.

Evaluation of Women's Community Justice Centres: findings published

Over 2013-15, the Scottish Government provided time-limited funding to 16 projects across Scotland to establish new and develop existing community services for women who offend. A national evaluation examined how these services were implemented and to what extent they contributed towards positive outcomes for women (associated with reduced reoffending). This national evaluation was completed at the end of May 2015. It was undertaken by Ruth Dryden and Colleen Souness, former Associates at Iriss
