The Adult Support and Protection national Large Scale Investigation framework

The national Large Scale Investigation (LSI) framework offers a set of processes and principles helpful to those conducting and/or participating in LSIs. To help think through how these processes and principles can be realised, the framework also contains hallmarks of good practice. It complements the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 Code of Practice, building on good practice happening around Scotland.

This short animated video explains what sextortion is and what to do if you are a victim of it. It is designed to be shared with the public.

Understanding age in Child Protection guidance and Adult Support and Protection legislation

This report explores working with 16 and 17 year olds through Adult Support and Protection (ASP) legislation and Child Protection (CP) guidance. Included is a guidance and legislation table, which can be used as a reference for professionals working with this age group. This is complemented by a discussion of tensions and challenges in the legislation and guidance. There is also a qualitative exploration of practitioner experience in working with 16 and 17 year olds.

Changing the way we think about hoarding (Dundee)

This video sets out basic knowledge on hoarding behaviour. It looks at why and how people hoard, trauma, and how hoarding behaviour can run in families (including in children). It also includes material on the Clutter Rating Scale, which helps with assessing risk. The video stresses the need for time, multi-agency working, and professional curiosity to work effectively with people who hoard.

Hoarding and self-neglect video (Dundee)

This video, presented by Lisa Cox of Scottish Fire and Rescue, defines a hoarding disorder and its key attributes. It looks at origins, prevalence, risk, assessment, and effective working with people affected by hoarding. The video also covers Diogenes Syndrome (DS).

Significant case review / learning review - Margaret Fleming: presentation to CPC/ASP joint meeting (Inverclyde)

This presentation was delivered in April 2024 to a joint Child Protection / Adult Support and Protection meeting. It explains the significant case review / learning review of Margaret Fleming, who was murdered late 1999/early 2000. The review sought to learn from Margaret's life and explicitly adopts a human rights and trauma-informed approach. The learning disability community were included within the review.

Learning reviews across the public protection landscape: presentation to CPC/ASP joint meeting

This presentation was delivered by the Care Inspectorate in April 2024 to a joint child protection / Adult Support and Protection meeting. It sets out the background to both children's and adults learning reviews, and themes that can be pulled out from each. The presentation also details the Care Inspectorate developments on aligning processes between children's and adults learning reviews, and future work.
