Trauma-informed approach to Adult Support and Protection: What is it? (Renfrewshire)

Trauma-informed practice is a model essential to Adult Support and Protection. It is grounded in, and directed by, an understanding of how trauma affects someone's neurological, biological, psychological and social development. This briefing sets out how principles of trauma-informed practice (safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment) can work alongside ASP processes. The material in this briefing has been adapted from the National Trauma Training Programme specifically for an ASP context.

Self-neglect and hoarding guidance (Aberdeen)

Learning from Learning Reviews: Self-neglect and hoarding (Aberdeen)

This video and one-page briefing share practice from Aberdeen's experiences when working with people with hoarding and/or self-neglecting behaviour. The material prompts practitioners to think about what might be the reasons for the person's behaviour and the possible impacts. It also addresses when an Adult Support and Protection referral should be considered. Relationship building, multi-agency working, and the balance of 'choice' and risk are all considered.

This one-page briefing highlights the main learning points from the case of Mr D. This person was deemed to be at serious risk of harm as a result of multiple missing person episodes. Concerns in this case related to information sharing, hospital discharge, and assessment/management of risk. The briefing can be used by other areas to reflect on their own practice.

A course explaining the role of Large Scale Investigations (LSIs) within the context of Adult Support and Protection in Scotland. The resource primarily consists of video interviews with experts and professionals who share their knowledge and experience on LSIs. It also allows learners to record their own reflections on a number of suggested learning points.

An online learning resource which supports the participation of adults and carers throughout the Adult Support and Protection process.

This is a completely updated version of a handbook from 2011, Working Together in Adult Support and Protection (developed by Altrum and the University of Stirling). This online learning resource was created in partnership by Iriss and NASPC. It includes several video reflections from professionals and people who have lived experience of the ASP process in Scotland. There is also reflective questions and space to record answers.
